The infusion of topical anesthetic, in conjunction with narcotics, provides better postoperative pain relief than the use of narcotics alone according to a Journal of the American College of Surgeons article. A safe, controlled infusion of topical anesthetic at the wound site provides several clinical and financial benefits. Including
  • localized delivery of topical anesthetics allows for a reduced dosage of systemic narotics to manage pain.
  • reduced systemic narcotics may result in the patient being discharged earlier.
  • the pain relief and ambulatory nature of the Advanced Infusion Pain Management System leads to better patient satisfaction scores.
The study also indicates a reduced number of infections (probably as a result of earlier discharge). In addition, there were no reports to toxicity associated with the infusion of topical anesthetic at the wound site.

The simplicity of the Advanced Infusion delivery system, coupled with the efficacy of combined therapies, provided practitioners with a postoperative pain management regimen that reduces pain and results in higher patient satisfaction levels.
